The original Plymouth Military Wives Choir, who rose to fame in Gareth Malone’s TV series, ‘The Choir’, are to perform at the Hall for Cornwall in September, as guests of the Mevagissey Male Choir. Earlier this summer, the Plymouth ladies, who had a No. 1 Christmas hit with ‘Wherever You Are’, were performing at New York’s Carnegie Hall
It will be the fifth time the two choirs have performed together since they were introduced at Ashburton in Devon three years ago. In May 2014 they appeared together at the Minack and, later in the month, jointly celebrated the Meva men’s 40th anniversary at the Eden Project, while last year they sang together at the Plymouth Guildhall – all sell-outs!
Back in May this year, Mevagisssey played host to the Culdrose Military Wives, the only Military Wives choir in Cornwall, at the Minack Theatre – and in October they travel to Cyprus to sing with the Akrotiri and Episkopi MWCs.
The Hall for Cornwall concert takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday, 10th September and tickets, priced at £13:50 – £19, are already available via firstname.lastname@example.org
The choirs will also be joined by popular St Austell soprano, Alison Harvey, and the compere for the evening will be Tim Thornton, Bishop of Truro, otherwise known as ‘Bishop Tim’.
Mevagissey Male Choir will also use the occasion to launch their first-ever Christmas CD, ‘Sing for the Child’.
