01.07.11: A Roseland art gallery is marking its second anniversary by going on the road with an exhibition of work by two of Cornwall’s foremost artists.
Portscatho’s Harbour Gallery is showing previously unseen work by Andrew Tozer and Lynn Golden in the Millennium Rooms, St Mawes from Friday July 29th to Thursday August 4th.
Gallery owner Tony Millington said: “The Harbour Gallery is a small space which exhibits work by some of the leading established and emerging artists working in Cornwall today. Lynn and Andrew are wonderful painters of light, and it seems right to give them more space and also show their work in the larger and airier gallery above the Roseland Visitor Centre.”
Andrew Tozer is best known for painting landscapes and seascapes in acrylic, but is increasingly drawn to interior scenes. Born in Cornwall, he studied at Falmouth School of Art and Design, the University of Westminster, and Central St Martin’s School of Art and Design.
Andrew said: “I’ve learned a lot about painting outside from the Impressionists, but I’m as much influenced by modern painters such as Richard Diebenkorn and Giorgio Morandi. Most of all I want my works to feel vital, contemporary and my own.”
Lynn Golden originally trained at St Albans College of Art and has lived in Cornwall for 35 years. She too principally creates landscapes and seascapes, but works in pastel, acrylic and metallic leaf, and is also known for her still life floral compositions.
Lynn told Roseland Online: “This collection is my continuing reaction to, and interpretation of, the colour and light before me – the rich purples and pinks of a foxglove against the turquoise waters of the sea, or the riot and harmony of garden flowers. It’s that freshness and excitement that attracts me.”
The Harbour Gallery’s summer exhibition in the Millennium Rooms, St Mawes will be open daily from 10am until 6pm from Friday July 29th to Thursday August 4th and there will be a charity preview on Thursday July 28th from 6pm to 8pm. Entrance is free, but donations to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution will be invited.
