Roseland Residents Pledge to Help Calais Refugees

refugees-calaisRoseland residents, Leanne Clark and Julia McIntosh, have been so moved by the plight of refugees in Calais, they have decided to take a trip over at the end of September with clothes, food and essentials and to help in any way they can out there.

To enable them make the trip, however, they need to raise funds to help towards travel costs.

Leanne told Roseland Online, “We can put some towards the trip ourselves but cannot cover all the costs. We plan to take a car load of donations over with us, comprising of mens clothes and shoes (trainer/walking boot style, please, not smart shoes), blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, waterproof sheeting, tents, hats, gloves, bin bags, umbrellas and tinned food (not containing pork).”

Once they have been there and seen exactly what is needed, they also plan to use any donated money to refill their car and return with more supplies.

Leanne added, “The list of requirements is changing day-by-day but these are core items. We were planning on taking sanitary items for women and things for children, but as only 10{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} of the camp’s population is female at present, there are enough stocks to last a year.

“It is very much a case of putting politics aside for me. Right now, 5000 human beings are living in a jungle and with winter coming,  desperation is growing.”

You can donate cash on their GoFundMe page here: www.gofundme.com/8t3egwwg
