Roseland Surgeries Patients Group (RSPG) News

The success of the Painting for Fun activity run by the RSPG has suggested that we might put on some additional courses in the art area. Some people may be concerned about coming along to our existing art sessions because of a perceived lack of skill – well you don’t need any! It is not a true arty event – more a fun thing with use sometimes of things like sponges or foam or sticks for mark making! Yes we do have “proper” stuff as well and everything is provided for your use because it was subsidised initially by the community grants received by the RSPG and since added to by donations from those who have attended for the past couple of years.

So on Saturday the 9th January there is a Learn to Draw workshop day in the Memorial Hall, Portscatho 1100 – 1530. It is being run by a professional tutor – Tamsin Dearing (Google her name to see her work) whose aim is to give you the confidence to develop your drawing ability whether you are a beginner or already an artist.

On Saturday the 30th January there will be a Clay sculpture workshop – same place and time – where you will learn how to form a wire structure then how to clothe it in clay and paint it! Fast air-drying clay will be used. Then if you enjoy that there will be a further clay sculpture course comprising a series of 5 sessions starting on February 24th and running each week between 10 and 12 also in the Hall. Here you will learn about shaping, joining, detailing, relief work, moulding, finishing and painting of your work. The aim is to give you enough skills to be self-sufficient in your new hobby!

The cost of a single day course is £25 and the 5 week one is £50. These are subsidised prices as a usual professional Tutor Day would cost around £45 also, financial help could be available for those experiencing difficulty in raising the money. This will include all equipment, paper and clay and tea or coffee. You will need to bring your own lunch. This could be a chance to get started on some therapeutic art that will help while away the winter – or it might be the solution to a tricky Christmas present for someone! Vouchers can be sent to any recipient!

If you would like to book a place please phone Simone on 01872 581801 and leave your contact details, preferably including an email address, stating which course you are interested in joining.  Take a look at our poster here!
