School Celebrates Paralympics at Flower Fest

24.07.12: Children at Gerrans School have created a banner in their art classes to celebrate the inclusion of the Paralympics in the Olympic games this summer.

They were asked to submit something for this year’s flower festival in Gerrans Church, the theme of which this year is ‘1952 – 2012: A Commemoration’.

Organiser, Jenny Kaymer told Roseland Online, “All the floral arrangements in the Church will be interpretations or reflections on events that have happened over the last 60 years, as part of our celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. There will be more than 20 arrangements inspired by worldwide and local events, including scientific discoveries, social developments, the Arts, Wars and Disasters, and the children from Gerrans School have put together their own display for the festival.”

There will be many events also attached to the evenit, including a special Preview Evening at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 8 August, a performance of ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by FalFun4Kids, a special Festival Concert to be held at 7:30 pm on Saturday 11 August 2012 with St Anthony’s Noyse, Force Five Wind Quintet, Sforzsaxo Saxophone Quartet and 4 in a Bar.

Jenny added, “Our final celebration will be on Sunday 12 August 2012 at 6 pm when the Festival closes with Choral Evensong led by the Roseland Churches Choir.”
