03.10.11: A new fish and chip business starts this Friday in Portscatho. Ross McLachlan, ex chef from the Driftwood hotel, wants to bring back traditional and wholesome fish and chips to the palettes of Roseland residents.

He told Roseland Online, “I am fed up with being served additives and hydrogenated oil in my food and wanted to try and bring good old fashioned fish and chips back to our tables. I will be using dripping to cook with and use fresh hand-cut potatoes for the chips. And as for the good old ‘Yorkshire caviar’, I shall be cooking dried marrowfat peas to make a proper mushy pea.”

Ross will be starting to roll out his new service on Friday 7th October at 6.30pm in the New Road lay-by in Portscatho from a converted van and plans future local rounds depending on the response.

Ross continued, “We are so used to accepting additives in our food that we don’t question it, but I truly believe it’s unnecessary. Fish and chips is one of the oldest and staple diets of British people and I feel a need to bring it back to its roots.”

We wish Ross all the best wish his new venture and hope everyone will make time to pop over and try his wares for themselves.
