Book Review – May 2018 – Sallie Eden

The Legacy by Yrsa Sigurdardottir – English language paperback published by Hodder & Stoughton, 2018

If you like Scandinoir* you’ll love this book by renowned Icelandic writer Yrsa Sigurdardottir and brilliantly translated by Victoria Cribb.

Reviews of this and her previous books have summed up her plots as “a good story, well told”. I couldn’t have put it better myself..

By turns, shocking, tense and more than a little confusing, this is a first class thriller, focusing on the full range of human relations and emotions.  There are happy families and solitary, dispirited individuals and everything in between. Into their lives comes the darkest side of human nature. But what is the link. What do the numbers mean? And how do you calculate the probability….?

Scary, moving and the sort of book that comes back to haunt you in nightmares. My advice (and that of the author): keep away from household appliances. Meanwhile, I’m off to order the rest of her books.

*yes, I know Iceland isn’t considered to be part of Scandinavia.
