A friend recommended this book and I’m not surprised. Graham Norton has a gift for writing about feelings and a depth of understanding which shines through in this book.
Connor looks back to 1987, when Ireland was a very different place and communities were very different too. But for him, that year was significant in more life changing ways. He was a survivor in a fatal car crash which killed three people and left another in a wheelchair. The only thing he can think of is to hide from the memories and to do that he needs to escape.
His story, and that of the others involved, left me feeling sad at lives wasted because of prejudice and fear. But this isn’t just a story filled with sadness and regret, it’s full of warmth and (I hope) eventual acceptance.
A really thought provoking, well written and thoroughly enthralling book. Bravo Mr Norton!
