Set on the wilds of Bodmin Moor and the storm tossed Cornish Coast, this original film of Du Maurier’s “Jamaica Inn” starring Charles Laughton, directed by Alfred Hitchcock is a classic.
“Jamaica Inn” was the first of the three stories by Daphne du Maurier which Alfred Hitchcock made into films.
Starring Charles Laughton, Robert Newton and Maureen O’Hara, the film tells the story of a gang of smugglers led by Joss Merlyn, landlord of Jamaica Inn.
Using false lights, they lure ships onto the rocks, murder the unfortunate crews and make off with the cargo.
Mary Yellan, recently orphaned, arrives to stay with her aunt and uncle at Jamaica Inn and uncovers its dark secrets.
