DVD Review – April 2020 – Mark David Hatwood

Knives OutDaniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, and Chris Evans, Directed by Rian Johnson

When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.

With so many top class actors and a tongue-in-cheek script, this was bound to be an enjoyable romp. Although not the most surprising ending, it was fun to watch from beginning to end and everyone kicked it out the ballpark, hamming up their characters to the nth-degree. Enjoyable, absorbing and entertaining from the outset.

Verdict: Preposterous, yes, but what a fun ride. Enjoy this beauty! ****
