DVD Review – December 2013 – Mark David Hatwood

The Heat Starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, directed by Paul Feig

theheatUptight and straight-laced, FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a reputation for excellence–and hyper-arrogance. Shannon Mullins (McCarthy), one of Boston P.D.’s “finest,” is foul-mouthed and has a very short fuse.. Neither has ever had a partner, so when these two wildly incompatible law officers join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected… buddies.

Now here we have a superb film. You can’t help find yourself falling for these two misfits right from the off. Both disliked by their colleagues… and understandably. But we LOVE ’em!

My wife and I were in hysterics from mite 2 to minute 102… not a easy thing to do with my discerning wife! But the characters are full, their chemistry fabulous and the script tight. But it’s the actors themselves that make this movie. The jokes are there, but it’s the ad-libs and facial contortions that put this where it should be… as one of THE comedies of 2013!

Verdict: A nicely acted, hilarious romp with two endearing characters from the can-do-no-wrong director of Bridesmaids! *****

This film will be shown at The Harbour Club, Portscatho on Monday 9th December
