DVD Review – September 2018 – Mark David Hatwood

intothefadeIn The Fade Starring Diane Kruger & Denis Moschitto Directed by Fatih Akin

Katja’s (Kruger) life falls apart when her husband and son are killed in a bomb attack. Her friends and family try to give her the support she needs,  but the lengthy search for the perpetrators opens wounds and doubts. Danilo (Moschitto), a lawyer and Nuri’s best friend, represents Katja in the trial against the two suspects – a couple from a neo-Nazi group – but it pushes Katja to the edge, leaving her with no alternative: revenge.

Worthy of its Golden Globe foreign language award, this is a tense and painfully watchable movie with a somewhat interesting end. Although it has its flaws, it’s a very powerful piece, superbly acted by Diane Kruger and well worth one and a half hours of your precious life.

Verdict: Another solid film from Fatih Akin with great performances from the whole case. ****

This film will be shown at The Harbour Club, Portscatho on Tuesday 18th September
