Remembrance Sunday in Lockdown

Given the latest Lockdown, many arrangements for Remembrance Sunday had to be cancelled.

Portscatho Coastguard Station Officer, Andy Day, came up with a great idea for the day. Some members of the team, and a few friends, left Portscatho to cycle to various War Memorials on the Roseland and leave a poppy for Remembrance Day.

Just over 32 miles later they had visited St Mawes, St Just, Turnaware, Philleigh, Ruan Lanihorne, Tregony, Veryan, Gerrans and Portscatho.

They were at the Turnaware Memorial for the two-minute silence held at 11 am.  Thousands of troops went from this location to the D Day landings in 1944.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

  • I wondered where that poppy came from – what a lovely idea and thank you very much for taking the trouble to deliver them to the War Memorials on the Roseland.
