Roseland Neighbourhood Plan – July Update

Roseland Neighbourhood Plan Launched

The Roseland neighbourhood planning process is ready to go. The Roseland Neighbourhood Development Plan is a joint venture between five Parishes (St Mawes and St Just, Gerrans, Veryan, Ruan Lanihorne and Philleigh).  The parishes have formed a Steering Group and have appointed a Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary. Work on the plan is now starting.

Neighbourhood planning is designed to give local communities more of a say over the details of local development policy. The Steering Group’s terms of reference say that the plan is all about “shaping future development in the Roseland whilst safeguarding and enhancing what is valued”. The plan will influence the look and feel of the Roseland over the coming years. It will give the community much more control over the detail of what’s built, where it’s built and what it looks like. But first the community has to work out and agree what it wants.

Community engagement is at the heart of the process. The Steering Group is busy formulating a strategy to find out what YOU want for the future of the Roseland. The plan will be built on what you say is important to you. At the end of the process you will be asked to endorse the plan in a Roseland wide referendum.

But the Steering Group can only listen to you if you tell them you what you want. So do take part in the first round of consultations and other events that will take place over the next few months. More details will be published shortly. In addition some specialist groups may be formed to research and explore the more technical aspects once we have more details of what the community wants. These groups could provide another way for you to contribute.

Besides producing the formal plan, the process will also provide an important legacy; the chance to build new relationships across the Roseland and beyond, and to allow the seeds of new ideas and initiatives to emerge.

Most of the process depends on volunteers. We have a core but will need more. So please consider getting involved.

There will be a Roseland Plan stand at a number of events during the summer, starting off with the Philleigh Fayre (24th July), Veryan Carnival (27th July) and St Just Carnival (28th July). Details of August events will come later. Why not take this opportunity to come and find out more and tell us about your hopes and fears for the future of the Roseland.

In the short term you can also get in touch by phoning the Steering Group Secretary John Adams on 01872 501749 or emailing him at info@roselandplan.org
