Roseland Plan Voting Results

planyesYesterday, Thursday 20th August, The Roseland peninsula came out to vote for or against the Roseland Plan. The overwhelming majority of residents (74.98{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} of voters) voted in favour of the plan.

In total, 1139 residents votes were counted which accounts for 40.75{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} of the electorate. 853 of these voted yes and 286 voted no.

For the Roseland Plan to be adopted, it needed over 50{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} of the electorate to vote for it, so with well over that percentage, the plan will now be bought into force with immediate effect.

Neighbourhood plans are prepared by town or parish councils, or neighbourhood forums. A plan can show how the community wants land to be used and developed in its area.

After a neighbourhood plan or order has been prepared, it has to be approved by an independent examiner to make sure that it meets the right basic standards. This has been done.

Following the examiner’s approval, Cornwall Council organised this referendum on the plan or order,  to give the community the final say on whether a neighbourhood plan or order comes into force, which it did in yesterday’s vote.

  1. Great news for the Roseland, hope the rest of Cornwall follows.
This will help protect Cornwall’s heritag and hopefully prevent unnecassary development & more empty homes.
Congratulations to those who have put in so much hard work getting this through.

  2. Interesting figures. What was the total number of inhabitants of the Roseland Plan area eligible to vote?
Or in other words, what was the turnout percentage. I went to vote in Portscatho in the late afternoon and was informed by the Polling station staff that it was struggling to reach 30{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} and St Mawes even less. 1139 voters in the whole of the Roseland does not seem very many.
