Roseland Produces Budding Young Film Maker

Matthew PitmanA short film about Philleigh Fayre, made by a young Roseland resident, is due to be shown on the Cornwall Channel which broadcasts on Sky 212 and Freesat 401 on Monday evenings between 9 & 10 p.m.

15 year old Matthew Pitman has recently begun filming, editing and producing short films. Although still at school, in his spare time he has been working alongside Geoff Mason Brown of Blue Light Media, Mawgan Porth, but has decided to branch out on his own.

He now has his own company, ‘Matt’s Media’, and is producing short films about local people and events. So far he has produced a promotional film for a local charity; a DVD for Cornwall Dance’s annual show; assisted in the production of various videos for local musicians and dancers; a variety of films for his school and now this showcase film for Philleigh Fayre.

Speaking to Roseland Online, Matthew said, ‘I was thrilled to hear that the film I have shot and produced about Philleigh Fayre is to be shown on Sky. I never expected that, as a 15 year old, I would be given this fantastic opportunity. It’s an absolutely amazing feeling to think my film is good enough to be broadcast at all, let alone on Sky!

mattsmedia-logo‘Although I’ve always enjoyed taking photos, about a year ago I stumbled into filming almost by accident. I love the challenge of getting the best shots possible and then editing them and developing them into an interesting and inspiring film.  I find it a great way to express myself.’

Matthew feels that filming local events makes him appreciate the fantastic environment we all live in here in Cornwall and being involved with young local musicians and dancers has made him realise what a talented bunch of teenagers we have here. He thinks it’s great that, through his films, he can help gain exposure for individuals and organisations, which in turn will help them promote and grow their audience.

Matthew added, ‘I’m thinking I would like to specialise in filming in the future and although I am still only due to take GCSEs next summer I am already researching which college and/or university will offer me the best place to study media and filming.’

Matthew’s film about Philleigh Fayre can be seen on Sky 212 & Freesat 401 on Monday 18th August 2014 between 9 p.m. & 10 p.m. Alternatively you can find out more about him using the following links:
