This 5 BAFTA nominated film sees dreamy George Clooney playing a dishevelled dad in this outstanding adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings’s tragicomic novel. Matt King is a Hawaii real-estate attorney whose wife ends up in a coma so he must learn to balance the parenting of his resentful daughters whilst finding out his wife was having an affair.

I feel a complete klutz giving two films five stars this month, but what can I do. The Descendants is funny, moving, and beautifully acted. So shoot me!

Verdict: A brilliant follow-up to Alexander Payne’s stunning 2004 offering, Sideways and well worth the wait. *****
