poppygardenThe Cornwall Today Garden of the Year competition is in swing again and for the first time ever, a full 20{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} of the 15 nominees are from our own South Central Cornwall!

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trewithen gardens and the family run Poppy Garden in Ruan have been nominated for this prestigious award with the Poppy Garden in Ruan being the only nominee to have no employees.

Poppy Garden’s Tina and Dave Primmer told Roseland Online, “We feel very privileged to have been selected in such a great list of fantastic gardens in Cornwall. We are a comparatively new and small garden compared to many of the other nominees, having only developed our garden over the past 8 years. This is the first time we have been nominated for anything like this and were quite shocked when we received the news.”

As well as being nominated for this Cornish award, the Poppy Garden will be featured on the BBC’s popular Gardeners World programme on March 22nd at 8.30pm.

Dave and Tina added, “Gardener’s World are putting out a film of Poppy Cottage Garden taken last August featuring our use of colour in the garden. The hope [is] they can inspire viewers to have a go themselves and brighten up a dreary winter!

The Cornwall Today Garden of the Year competition is a votable competition so if you’d like to support any of this year’s nominees, click here to go to their website. Each garden has a dedicated page with links and details of how to vote.

We wish all the South Central Cornwall nominees the best of luck and look forward to reporting on the winners after the prize-giving ceremony at the Cornwall Spring Flower Show at Boconnoc, nr. Lostwithiel on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April.
