Here’s the summary for March. Pretty grim we’re afraid. Penny from the Kernow Weather Team sums it up for us.

Well, March came in like a lion with the first yellow weather warning for rain.

I think that was an omen, as from then on, not only was it one of the wettest, but overcast too.

We saw days of rain, overcast skies, and plenty of mist, mizzel and fog. In fact, it got to a point where our weather forecasts were on repeat. The constant cloud and spells of rain brought flooding, with a staggering 168 mm of rain falling over all.

It was windy on and off, but it remained very mild with a top temperature of 16°C recorded. The constant rain brought plenty of flooding, places like Mawgan Porth suffering badly, including Newquay and Wadebridge.

When the sun did come out, it became a humoured joke amongst us. Then comes along Storm Nelson, which was named by the Spanish Met Service. This brought further torrential downpours of hail, rain, sleet, and even snow, which led to some parts of the A30 and A38 gridlocked during an evening. Wind speeds of 70mph were recorded on our weather station too. Storm Nelson affected parts of France much worse, they saw gusts of 113mph, so once again we dodged a bullet.

It’s not looking great into April, as low pressure will dominate our weather for at least 10 days. So as we get ready to putting the clocks forward, let’s hope the weather improves.
