For our last offering before a Christmas break, we present Martyn Babb. Roger Bryant told us at Bude Festival to “listen to this man, he’s a great entertainer” and boy, was he right!! Martyn is difficult to categorise, a folk singer and musician, certainly, but he is much more than that. He is an MC, a comic, a teller of tales….. - the term entertainer probably best sums him up. We can promise a great start to the festive season……

Staring Rowan Atkinson, Maggie Smith and Patrick Swayze and filmed locally this tells of a vicar so obsessed with writing the perfect sermon that he fails to notice that his wife is conducting a dalliance with her golf instructor, his daughter is running riot and his son is being bullied. The arrival of a new housekeeper sees an unusual way of solving the family’s problems.

12th May 7.30 Grampound Hall. THE MINISTRY OF BISCUITS! Superb national touring comedy.....Stop! Think before you eat that biscuit! Is it in any way fancy? If so, then you are a criminal! London, 1948 – The Ministry of Biscuits casts its sinister shadow over every tea-time and elevenses in the land. Established to “control biscuits, and to control the idea of biscuits,” it prohibits decadent sweetmeats, such as the Gypsy Cream. But when Cedric Hobson, a junior designer, falls in love and designs a biscuit to “shake confectionery to its very foundations,” his world – and the ministry – are turned upside down. Tickets £9/£7/£25 (family 4) from CRBO online, Grampound store or 01726 883874

“Wonderfully done, delightful and one of the best family shows on the fringe.” – The List
