Book reviews – October 2023 – Sallie Eden – The Twist of a Knife

The Twist of a Knife by Anthony Horowitz
Published in paperback by Penguin, 2023

The author writes of his experience of being accused of killing a theatre critic who didn’t like a play he’d written.

He tells of his arrest, being charged and put into prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Or did he?

Only Hawthorne can help him, but having just terminated their agreement to collaborate on a further series of books, how likely is it that the former detective will forget their recent differences and track down the real murderer?

With an original storyline, clues laid out but all too easily missed, some clever twists, frequent touches of humour and terrific writing, it could only be an Anthony Horowitz whodunit.

A really great read from the writer of the Alex Rider series for Young Adults, Foyle’s War, episodes of Midsomer Murders and Poirot. I enjoyed it tremendously, in fact I started rereading it almost as soon as I’d finished it.

Incidentally, his dog was no help at all.
