Centenary celebrations for Veryan Community Café and Warm Hub

Major milestone for community café

Make a visit to Veryan on a Wednesday between 10am and 2pm and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome at the Veryan Community Café and Warm Hub.

Warm hubs have been offered across the Roseland this winter through Volunteer Cornwall with the support of the Roseland Surgeries Patient Group (RSPG). The hubs were set up to offer a warm, friendly, safe space to enjoy free refreshments in the company of others.

What sets the Veryan Café/Hub apart is that it has been going since 2017.

The Café/Hub, at Veryan Parish Hall, serves teas, coffees, cakes, biscuits and more recently lunches. And, having survived lockdown, on the 15 March this year they celebrated their 100th session.

The driving force behind the project is Deanne Field. She felt the village lacked a community space where people could drop in and have a simple cup of tea or coffee.

So, with more than little determination and dedication the doors opened on her first community café on Wednesday 13 September 2017.

The original café was open once a fortnight. Now it’s open every week. As well as tea and coffee and biscuits there is cake, often homemade. You can even stay for lunch and enjoy a bowl of soup and a roll, or a jacket potato served with beans or cheese. It is provided free of charge, donations are welcome.

With the introduction of Warm Hubs this winter the Veryan café has benefitted from some financial support.

The café has a group of regular visitors but everyone is welcome. So, if you are passing through Veryan on a Wednesday morning/lunchtime drop in and say hello.

If you want to volunteer or find out more about the project please ring Deanne on 01872 501974 or email her dee@bobanddee.co.uk
