30.03.12: Devon and Cornwall Police would like to make everyone aware that they have received a report of cold callers offering to do work on a resident’s property in the Falmouth area recently.
They strongly advise that no one accept offers of work from cold callers and ask friends or relatives to recommend reputable local traders. The risks of employing tradesmen who cold call at your door are high. They can be quite charming in their attempts to get you to agree to the work, but they may be threatening when the time comes to pay. The DCPA advise you to say ‘No thank you’ and close the door on cold callers.
If you have cold callers and you feel pressurised or are suspicious of them, please don’t confront them, but contact the DCPA on 101 quoting log 562 28 March 2012. If possible please take descriptions and vehicle registration numbers.
Please pass this information on to your neighbours, especially if elderly or vulnerable.
