In the 1960s, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson struggled with emerging psychosis as he attempted to craft his avant-garde pop masterpiece. By the 1980s, he is a broken, confused man under the 24-hour watch of shady therapist Dr. Eugene Landy.

This fabulously open film shows the bitter truth of Brian Wilson’s genius and his sad breakdown. Sometimes brutally honest, but always engrossing. Really worth watching if nothing else for the wonderful soundtrack.

Verdict: A powerful film which encapsulates the man’s talent and vulnerability. ****
