Devon and Cornwall Police Notice

28.11.11: Devon and Cornwall Police Officers are investigating a number of reports of distraction burglaries received in Mid and West Cornwall. The burglaries that took place on Friday 25th November 2011 are of reports of males calling purporting to be from the water board claiming to be tracing water leaks or claiming to be tracing a gas leak. Whilst one distracted the resident, all of which have been elderly people, the other stole cash.

At this time the DCPA cannot say if all the reports have the same offenders but they are making all residents aware as these males could travel.

Please be suspicious of any unexpected callers and never let anyone into your property whose identity you are not certain of. If you believe you have suspicious persons calling at your door please phone 999 or e-mail general.enquiries@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk and if possible make a note of descriptions and vehicle registrations, please phone 101 if you have any other information.

N.B.: Always ask to see I.D. of callers and, if at all suspicious, call the numbers on the I.D. cards to make sure the callers are who say they are. If in doubt, don’t let anyone in.

Please pass this information on to your neighbours.
