It has been a busy start to the year for the Portscatho Cliff Rescue Team with no less than four calls since the middle of March.

A jogger on the cliff path near the village of Portscatho had fallen and broken his leg and another walker had slipped on rocks near Creek Stephen.  Cornwall Air Ambulance attended the first call, the Coastguard helicopter operated by Bristow was called to the second and winched the injured person to safety.

Members of the  Team were called a few days ago after a border collie fell 50 feet from the cliffs above Porthcurnick beach shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday evening close to the Hidden Hut.  Backed up by colleagues from Falmouth, they were able to reach and rescue the pet, which was luckily unharmed.  The rescue took more than an hour.

Speaking to Roseland Online, a member of the Cliff rescue Team said “The collie was retrieved safe and well, he was very lucky.  The cliff path can be dangerous, we urge owners to keep their dogs on a lead near cliff edges – should a dog get into trouble, please don’t try and rescue it yourself. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
