Unemployed recovering alcoholic, Duval, is contacted by a mysterious organisation to transcribe intercepted calls. He accepts the job with no suspicions to restore some stability to his life, but it soon results in wider implications that will directly affect his own life.
I may be the only critic to give this engrossing film such high acclaim, but I’m prepared to stand out from the crowd here. With such understated tension and great acting, this is a powerful film about the impact complex politics can have on an average person’s life.
Although a french language film, for me it competes with most things the US or UK could do in this genre, but without the dark intensity that is so French.
Verdict: An engaging and strong film that will keep you guessing to the end. ****
