Starring Gemma Arterton, Roger Allam, Bill Camp, Dominic Cooper, Luke Evans and Tamsin Greig, directed by Stephen Frears
Once the ugly duckling of a rural Dorset village, Tamara Drewe (Arterton) returns home, now a glamorous, high flying journalist, only to ruffle feathers, rekindle old passions and shakes up the sleepy village with hilarious and heart-warming consequences.
Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen), starring a host of great British talent, this film is based on Posy Simmond’s much loved graphic novel and is quite a delight. Not one of Stephen’s best films, but great fun and well casted – you’ll just love the two impetuous schoolgirls – making it a sure-fire hit on DVD.
Verdict: Good British comedy from some of the best purveyors of their art. *** ½
