Julian German, the Independent candidate for St Goran, Tregony and The Roseland (and former leader of Cornwall Council) has held onto his seat.
Julian won 1412 votes, followed by Richard Heath (Con) with 849 and Bethany Mepham (Grn) with 290. Turnout was 53% for the division.
Councillor German thanked the other candidates, election staff, the polling stations, the people that brought the counts in last night, and the verification staff. Speaking afterwards, he added “The next council will find it a very challenging time, we’ve been demanding for many years for fairer funding, if Cornwall was to receive the same level of funding as Camden then Cornwall would be receiving £120m over and above what it does at the moment.
“We’ve got huge challenges around adult social care, around housing, and we really need to be working together for the best interest of the people of Cornwall to address these, and I sincerely hope the next council and all those councillors elected today will work together with the best interests of Cornwall.
“Thank you very much for all your support and the Cornwall Council staff who have done so much during the pandemic, it’s been very much appreciated.”
