Buoyed with promotion success in 2022, Gerrans Cricket Club has made an early start to the 2023 Season. Simon Tilley’s squad is already practising indoors every Sunday in readiness for outdoor league cricket which starts on 15th April.
Reflecting on last year’s success, Club Captain Tilley said “The team spirit on and off the field was tremendous. 2023 will be a step up for us all. As a small village team, we need to continue to strengthen our playing squad – so we’re keen to sign up some new players. We’re not looking for everyone to play every week, but of course if you can, that would be great. Our players range from 15 – over 70 years old. We like to think we are very inclusive!
Club Administrator Steve Hooper added “We have one of the most attractive grounds in Cornwall and I like to think we also have one of the best wickets on the circuit. We’ve invested nearly £8,000 in our playing and ground facilities over the Autumn and Winter to make them better than ever.
Jack Torkington – the Manager at The Standard Inn in Gerrans – joined the club last year. “We have a terrific bunch of lads at the club and I really enjoyed being part of the team. Now that The Standard Inn is open again, we’re looking forward to welcoming Gerrans CC and opposition teams back to the Pub after every home game for a few snacks and a pint or two in our newly enlarged Beer Garden.
Winter nets are on Sunday afternoons between 5pm – 7pm at Penrice Academy School.
