Well, what can we say about May. It’s certainly been a mixed bag of weather, with a series of weather fronts, met office rain warnings, and thunderstorms. These hit the east of Cornwall, bringing with it flash flooding and hail.

These severe thunderstorms also caused problems on the road network.

Temperatures weren’t anything to shout about, although a few days of sunshine brought a high temperature of 26°C to the East of Cornwall, making us all think that summer had arrived. It was very pleasant until the rain and mizzle returned. Nighttime temperatures stayed rather cool for May. These were not much higher than 13°C but a low of around 6°C which felt more like winter than spring. Our winds stayed mainly from a Northwesterly direction, with the occasional southeasterly which brought a brief warm spell.

The Northern Lights were the stars of the show this month. Some were lucky enough to see them – others slept soundly through the whole event! If you happened to capture them on camera in and around the Roseland we’d love to see them.

The bank holiday wasn’t great, and it certainly didn’t bring visitors to the beach. High pressure is now starting to move in. Hopefully, this will lead to a more settled pattern as we head into the first few days of June.
