November was all about the ladies, Figurehead and the True Foxes, both tremendous.

We follow them with Steve Turner a marvellous singer and multi-instrumentalist. He will be with us at the Veryan Sports & Social Club, 7.30pm Wednesday, 11 December for some more marvellous songs and melodies.

Steve Turner

Steve is a pioneer of highly sophisticated English concertina player, possibly the foremost of his generation. He also accompanies himself on mandolin and tenor banjo. An amazing interpreter of song and great storyteller with songs unearthing memories.

He has performed at folk festivals, clubs and concerts throughout the UK, toured America, Australia, Germany and Italy, recently meeting the Ladies of Figurehead in Finland. Steve’s performances are characterised by strong melodies and a warm connection with the audience.

Tickets are £10 at www.visittruro.org.uk, and also cornwall365.com, where you can find further information, or reserve at philleighfolk@btinternet.com and as always on the door.

Children in Need

We had our normal club night with lots of traditional shanties sung by Figurehead, a unique blend of unaccompanied female voices. This was the evening before the Friday of ‘Children in Need’ and our generous audience raised £72 for Pudsey.

Saturday Special

On Saturday 23 November the cousin duo, True Foxes, played to a sell-out audience. A marvellous evening, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Amie and Chloe sang songs from their new CD, which is also available on vinyl and had lots of ‘merch’ produced by themselves. They are joining Will Keating on his Candlelit tour in January.

Another date for the diary
