Council hosts renewable energy conference

21.06.11: Cornwall Council has organised a major renewable energy conference and exhibition at the former Gaia Centre, Delabole on July 28 and 29. The first day of the two day event is aimed at industry and business and the second day aimed at householders and community groups, with organisations such as the Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network explaining their hopes and ambitions while developers will explain a host of renewable energy technologies including solar, wind, biomass, hydro and ground source heat.

Roseland resident Julian German (Cabinet Member for the Environment) said, “Cornwall has enormous potential to generate clean, green energy from a diverse range of resources including wind, solar, biomass and geothermal. There is enormous interest in harnessing these resources, allowing Cornwall to become increasingly self-sufficient in power generation, reducing our current ‘energy deficit’ while also becoming a pioneer for employment, education and training opportunities. I would urge anyone with an interest in renewable energy to attend this event.”

Carolyn Rule, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Cornwall Council said: “Cornwall is currently heavily reliant on imported fuels and this can affect our economy, both now and in the future. It is vitally important for our environment and economy that we consider our renewable energy resources and reduce our reliance on imported fuels.”

Anyone interested in attending the event, or having a trade stand, can make a booking by emailing planning.county@cornwall.gov.uk. There is free admission to this event if anyone books before July 8th. For more information about renewable energy in Cornwall, click here.
