The RSPG (Roseland Surgeries Patients Group) is looking for local donations from councils, companies and individuals to buy Heart Defibrillators for each of the Roseland parishes and Roseland Online will be helping spread the word about this important project over the coming months.
During summer tourism, severe road congestion can mean it takes 45 minutes to get an ambulance from Truro to the more remote areas on the peninsula and statistics say that every minute delay in treating cardiac arrest reduces survival rate by 10{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20}.
As well as the £30,000 needed for the project – in the past 3 weeks donations amounting to £3600 have already been received – the RSPG will be offering British Heart Foundation ‘Heartstart’ courses to groups of locals. This course offers basic First Aid and includes dealing with heart attack, cardiac arrest and other important first-aid procedures.
70{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20} of cardiac arrests occur at home. If defibrillation is given within 3 minutes, then the survival rate goes up to 74{c8c3b3d140ed11cb7662417ff7b2dc686ffa9c2daf0848ac14f76e68f36d0c20}, so we are urging those who can help with a small donation to either donate by direct debit or by Paypal.
