10.09.11: On Tuesday 4th October, the Harbour Club in Portscatho will be hosting the Roseland Wildlife Evening. There will be a number of local wildlife enthusiasts presenting, including the RSPB’s cirl bunting team leader – and Roseland Online Features writer – Nick Tomalin, and his entourage, as well as the National Trust team.
Nick told Roseland Online, “It’s been five years since I started working on the Roseland Peninsula, and in that time I’ve met many people with whom I’ve shared a conversation about the Roseland’s wildlife. Often that has included our delightful little cirl buntings, but in other cases I’ve discussed wintering divers and grebes in the bay, migrating ospreys on the river, elusive otter sightings, rearing moths, and escaped polecats! There’s no shortage of subjects to debate, and an even longer line of willing participants to discuss them! So for anyone who has an interest, a question, or an opinion to share, we’re there to answer them.”
The evening of talks will highlight the wildlife found on the Roseland and some of the work occurring to protect and enhance it. There will be people on hand from 7:30pm onwards to answer any questions anyone may have and to chat with locals. The running order will be:
8:00-8:20 The National Trust – Phil White and Emma Shepherd
8:20-8:40 The Roseland’s Seals – Lucy Tozer
8:40-9:00 Interval – Choc Ices and drinks available at the bar!
9:00-9:40 The Cirl Bunting Reintroduction Project – Nick Tomalin, Bruce Taggart, Chris Sellares and Stuart Croft
The event is free to harbour club members and will cost non-members just 50p! Please feel free to come and go as you please – there is no need to stay for the whole evening if you don’t want to!
Nick continued, “It’s an opportunity for everyone to find out more about the work occurring locally, and how you can get involved. And it’s a chance for everyone to quiz some of the regions conservationists on whatever matters most to them. I hope we’ll see plenty of nature enthusiasts there.”
