16.08.12: On September 1st, the Grampound Carnival Day, first held in 1938, returns for its 74th Anniversary.
The Fete opens at 2pm at the Grampound Recreation Ground (TR2 4SB) with the Carnival Procession through the village commencing at 6pm. Entries of all ages are welcomed and will be accepted up to 4pm on the day or pre-book (classes for walking and motorised entries).
Phil Mannell, the Grampound with Creed Carnival Committee Chairman, told Roseland Online, ‘We are optimistic that 2012 will see Grampound Carnival again provide a fun-packed day for locals and visitors alike.’
There will be attractions for everyone: Battlefield Live Kernow Laser Game, Climbing Wall, Bouncy Castle, Children’s Rides, Face Painting, Screech Owl Sanctuary, Pygmy Goats, Rabbits, Craft Stalls, Duck Race, Refreshments, Hog Roast and a Real Ale Tent.
This year, they also host the Cornwall Golf Partnership and will have professionals on hand to coach beginners and experienced golfers alike, including the chance to win free golf lessons.
The carnival has been quoted as bringing, “colour and fun to Grampound’ – The West Briton (2010), as well as ‘Grampound deservedly lived up to its reputation as host of one of the biggest and best village carnivals in Cornwall’ – St Austell Voice (2007) and ‘Fun-loving carnival with community spirit’ – The West Briton (2007)
Also featured on the day will be the sounds of: The St. Dennis Band, The Indian Queens Silver Band, Drumba Samba and the Jumping Out Jazz Band. Dance the night away with evening entertainment provided by the Motown Pirates.
