Hidden under tons of earth for decades, the battery at St Anthony Head was pretty forgotten. Now it's opened up again you can come and find out about the history of the place, going back through different threats of invasion up to when it was finally decommissioned. 11/08/2017(2 events) St Mawes Regatta Day, 15:30 – 23:00 – Part of Falmouth Week. After racing on St Mawes Regatta day, competitors and their friends will be most welcome to visit St Mawes where excellent teas will be served in StMSC's clubhouse before the prize giving at 1815. Furthermore, on the quay there will be musical entertainment (including Black Velvet in the afternoon and Tors in the evening), a bar and a barbeque throughout the afternoon and evening. Kernow King, 20:00 – 22:00 – The self-proclaimed King of Kernow has been touring for the last six years, and boy, has he come a long way. From pasties to dogging, politics to dialect, there isn't a subject matter that the King hasn't talked and laughed about. The event will take place in the marquee at Tregony Sports Club with licensed bar available. Come along for what is guaranteed to be a hilarious evening!! Veryan Bunker Tours (1100 and 1330), 11:00 Join our tours by local expert Lawrence Holmes and find out the stories behind what went on in a nuclear bunker as well as the nearby, strangely named, starfish bunker. The nuclear bunker is the only preserved ROC nuclear bunker in the south west open to the public on a regular basis and the decoy command bunker is the only known preserved one of its type in the UK. Maybe in August more than any other time of the year, our thoughts turn to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The RNLI are very active round our Cornish coast, particularly in the summer months. Our local station is at Falmouth where a celebration was held recently to commemorate 150 years of service.

Grampound Carnival, 14:00 Carnival Fete opens at 2 p.m. on the recreation ground with the usual wide selection of stalls and entertainment for all ages. Main parade starts at 6 p.m. from the car park up Fore Street and back down again. Road is closed for the parade. Philleigh Folk - Harbottle & Jonas, 19:30 David Harbottle and Freya Jonas have busked around the world and since returning to these shores have built an impressive gig list covering the whole country playing at festivals, folk clubs and pizza parlours (!!) Multi-instrumentalists, (it would be easiest to list what instruments they don’t play) their sets are a mixture of traditional and contemporary with a touch of Buddy Holly and Mumford & Son thrown in for good measure.
