Based on the best-selling novel by Emma Donoghue, Room follows the story of Ma, who has created a whole universe for five-year-old son, Jack, where they have both lived for his whole life. But when Ma decides they have to escape, she risks everything to give Jack the chance to make a thrilling discovery: the world.

Undoubtedly a harrowing cinematic experience, but undeniably an unforgettably rewarding journey played brilliantly by Brie Larson – and indeed the rest of the cast – that will resonate with you well after leaving the cinema. Deserving of all the praise it’s received, the Oscar winning performance by Ms. Larson is life affirming.

Verdict: Difficult watch, but worthy of your effort. ****
