We’ve been asked to pass on a big thank you from Philleigh Folk as their first gig at Veryan Sports and Social Club attracted a full house in January – even though it was a freezing cold night.
On Wednesday 7 February they are hoping the same warm welcome will be given to multi instrumentalists Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer.
Organiser, Dave Shepperson, sent this round up.
Thanks to old faces and new who came along to see our opening act Annown on such a freezing night. It was a marvellous start playing to a full house at Veryan Club, our new venue.
On Wednesday, 7th February we welcome multi instrumentalist Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer who effortlessly blend traditional music with contemporary sounds.
Their performances showcase new interpretations of old songs alongside original self penned tunes and new songs that are entirely at home in the Folk tradition. All presented with sparkling gentle humour and skilful musicianship.
Vicki & Jonny are two of the most versatile musicians of the folk circuit today and have developed a sound that is both familiar and fresh. Vicki plays various types of bagpipes, flute, recorder and be entranced by the haunting nyckelharpa a Swedish keyed-fiddle. Jonny is a multi instrumentalist, writer and arranger, he now specialises in traditional music from the British Isles and Scandinavia. He plays guitar, accordion, bouzouki, occasionally the harpsichord, not forgetting the Scandinavian cow bell.
Tickets are £10 at the door or to reserve tickets its philleighfolk@btinternet.com or ring/message 07736 065406. You can find us on Facebook, including the local Community page for Veryan & Portloe, posters are on the local village Notice boards.
It’s the second gig at Veryan, hope you can make it, should be a very entertaining evening.
