Photographs from around the Roseland

A couple of things caught my eye on my regular walks across Carne and Pendower Beaches this month. Both made me reach for my camera phone. It made me wonder if any of you have caught some unusual sightings around the Roseland on camera. It would be good to hear from you if you have. My email is lindsay@roselandonline.co.uk

Carnage on Carne

Hardly anyone could have avoided the mass stranding of dead jelly fish that occurred on our beaches around the 6 November. This was the state of Carne Beach.

The event even made it onto BBC TV news.

The smell hit you as you walked down onto the beach from the car park. There were so many it was treacherous under foot and it was days before the bodies of these stingers, Pelagia noctiluca, were washed away and the beach was restored to its natural beauty again.

No sooner had the jelly fish left our shores than another wildlife moment was captured on camera.

Surfing swans

During a dog walk just before sunset on the 13 November we spotted these swans taking an evening cruise across Veryan bay.

It took us a while to believe what our eyes were seeing as they headed into the surf at Carne.

It seems they were checking out a good meal of seaweed.

We often see them in and around the estuaries but it would be great if the wildlife experts amongst you could tell us how rare it is to see them ‘at sea’.

They seemed very chilled as they headed off to Pendower and into the sunset.
