Widow Launches Crowdfunding Campaign to Support Families with children in Cornwall Facing Terminal Illness
Tamsin Chapman-Gunner, who lost her husband Chris to cancer in April at just 42 years old, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support families in Cornwall where a parent or carer is facing a terminal illness. The initiative, called Gunners Kids CIC, was established in Chris’s memory and aims to help families in similar circumstances navigate this difficult time while creating lasting memories.
Gunners Kids CIC was conceived by Tamsin and Chris during his illness. They envisioned an organisation that would provide practical and emotional support to families coping with the unique challenges of terminal illness, while helping children maintain a sense of normalcy. The organisation’s mission is to enable families to make the most of their remaining time together, offering activities, memory-building workshops, and support boxes to ease the burden.
Tamsin Chapman-Gunner, co-founder of Gunners Kids CIC, said, “When Chris was ill, our days were filled with medical appointments, managing equipment, and caring for him, all while I was still working. It was hard to find time to just be together as a family. We often wished for activities that we could join with other families in similar situations. Chris came up with the idea for Gunners Kids, and while we planned to launch it before he passed, he sadly took a turn for the worse. Now, this will be his legacy—an organisation that brings families together and provides peer support for those facing the same challenges.”
A terminal illness can create immense financial strain, including the loss of income, rising costs for medical transportation, and the need for specialised equipment. Gunners Kids CIC is committed to offering all its services free of charge or at a minimal cost, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent families from accessing the help they need.
The crowdfunding campaign seeks to raise funds for activity days, workshops, and support boxes for families during these challenging times. Donations will directly support these services, helping families build cherished memories and find comfort in a supportive community.
