The Roseland Centre Thrives

The Roseland Centre Thrives

Since our June 1st, 2024, opening, we are aiming to become a beacon for the local community, offering unique programs and experiences on The Roseland Peninsula.

What a Summer it has been! The Centre, facilities, resources and dedicated staff/volunteers were stretched to meet the demand during our first season of trade. Local schools invested in brilliant, bespoke residential packages, outdoor and indoor activities, with fantastic evening games and celebrations to round off their stay. Our softer activities have ranged from problem-solving and team building challenges to insightful bushcraft and “art attack” workshops, music and creative sessions, map reading, and local beach cleans. Our harder activities such as paddlesports, sailing and rock climbing, have been made possible with huge thanks to local activity providers, Canoe Cornwall, Roseland Paddle & Sail, Via Ferrata Cornwall.

We also managed to squeeze in youth-based programs like the Discovery Arts Award, Holiday Activity Clubs, birthday parties, our Pioneer Café, (with digital IT workshops and resources to support those living with dementia and memory loss), and our wonderful afterschool PawPrint Family Club, where children can achieve whilst enjoying craft and imaginative play.

Our accessible facilities have been tried, tested and tweaked. Our 2 wet room showers and toilets have performed well. We gained a rating of Level 5 from the Food Standards Agency for our lovely little commercial kitchen, which also has been stretched since June 1st, cooking for up to 34 at a time.

The Community Garden has provided fresh produce for most of our residential stays this year, and since last year we have become Beach Clean Leaders for the Marine Conservation Society, cleaning and collecting data for Pendower Beach.

We are delighted to report that on 7th October, the St. Just in Roseland Parish Council reconfirmed their wholehearted support for the Roseland Centre project by providing additional help to enable us to continue our efforts through the coming colder months. We wish to record our heartfelt thanks for this assistance.

On the 9th October we hosted our fundraising dinner event at The Idle Rocks Hotel. It was a very enjoyable and worthy evening with speeches from Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho, our Chair Trustee and our Centre Management Team.

We look forward to working hard through the coming Winter, supporting more members of the community, nurturing our many projects and hopefully seeing more of you all very soon.

To date – 116 children participated in Holiday Activity Clubs, residentials served 173 young people, and over 500 people have used the Centre.
