Veryan Cricket Club was formed in 1860 before joining the Cornwall Cricket League in 1951. They originally played on a small piece of land at the top of the village before re-locating to the wonderful facility of the sports and social club in Elerkey Lane in the mid-1980s. The club has won the Hawkey Cup twice, in 1969 and 1987, while their highest league status saw them play in the old Senior 1 East in 1983, during which legendary leg spinner Dave Halfyard finished as the league’s leading wicket taker with 92.
Today we run two teams. The 1st XI has been captained by Matt Dixon for the last ten years, whilst the club proudly welcomes Roy Young in as our new 2nd XI captain.
We are always looking for new players both old and young, so if you wish to join either team please contact either Matt (07713329398) or Roy (07843346627). If you don’t wish to play but feel you want to take part in this community club, then perhaps a spot of umpiring, scoring or tea making to fill your Saturday afternoon?
