31.03.12: The stores in Veryan run by Toby and Angelee Robinson, who took over in March last year, have just finished a week of renovations to give the stores a fresher look and opened this morning to rave reviews from the locals. But it didn’t come without a shock on day one.
Toby told Roseland Online, “We had everything planned for the renovations but once we lifted up the eight layers of linolium we discovered the floors were quite rotten underneath. Hats off to our builders, though, because within the same amount of time, they managed to restore the rotten joists and floorboards and still get everything ready for the launch this morning.”
They wanted to keep to the week deadline as they understood many of the more elderly locals relied on them for their pensions and groceries, so they pull out all the stops to make it happen. They also decided to change the name of the stores to Veryan & Portloe stores (formerly called the Roseland Stores) to honour their patrons from both main villages within the parish.
Toby added, “We worked until the small hours last night to get everything ready but one or two of the new fridges still needs to be stocked with beer and wine. We’ll get round to tat during the day’s trading. All in all, I’m happy with the results and I wanted to keep an ‘olde-worlde’ feel to the store’s logo which seems to have gone down well with the locals.”
It’s true, too. Whilst our reporter was there, several people came in and commented both on how they liked the store’s new look and the fresh logo. Best of luck for the season from everyone at Roseland Online!
