December Newsletter
The Club is a marvellous sporting asset to the village and we are pleased to have the opportunity of adding articles for the local magazine. Its an individual facility run by keen volunteers and incorporates tennis, football, cricket and bowls. At present we even have a sea swimming group training in the hall. The clubhouse overlooks a large playing field; which benefits the village, together with the phone mast at the top corner.
Our footballers have been promoted year after year and are now in the senior division of Cornwall. They now travel further for games and have appreciated the help from sponsors and advertisers. The recent rain has not helped, waterlogged pitches and cancelled games creating a backlog
In the Elerkey Bar, we have been enjoying the Rugby World Cup on the large screen. Early start for some of us but good coffee and bacon butties went down well. We opened the bar for the regular members for the final, helped to dull the defeat for England, they had played so well. Our barmaid Rosie had worked hard the week before raising money for RNLI and the evening of the 2nd NOV organised a Halloween party.
The indoor bowls club have had the benefit of a Sport England Grant to relay the carpet and together with LED lighting is an excellent facility. We held open sessions to recruit new members and recently had the older children from the primary school playing, enjoyed by young and old!
The tennis club welcomes all ages and standards for men, ladies and mixed tennis. Competitively our teams have had a successful year in the Cornish leagues. We have two floodlight courts a practice wall and an adjacent clubhouse with changing facilities, for rainy days we have table tennis. We have celebrated success with beach BBQ and recently an awards dinner.
Our cricket team enjoyed their annual dinner in the hall of the club, cooked by outside caterers, with live music by the popular group ‘Broken Down’in the bar
Outdoor bowls recently held their end of season dinner at Griggs, a great Sunday roast, Local trophy winners were, Helen Couch, Peter White and Les Pollard.
The club will endeavour to keep all informed of forthcoming events in the magazine, by blackboard notices and its Facebook page. We look forward to new members in 2020, hope you enjoy our sports and wish you a very Merry Christmas.
