Veryan water garden annual clean up – and a shout out for more volunteers!
With wellies, waders, shovels, and a helping hand from a mini mechanical digger a small group of hardy volunteers gave the Veryan Watergarden its annual scrub-up on Saturday. This year has been much more of a challenge due to the heavy rain over the winter bringing down more silt, mud, and debris than usual.
As soon as the Christmas decs are down the water is let out and the mud can be cleared away. A team of volunteers is needed to help remove the debris otherwise, in the space of just a few years, the pond could be silted up completely.
Over the years the number of volunteers Veryan Parish Council can call on has dwindled – just when they need more and more help. They are also in the process of finding a gardener to keep this precious amenity looking its best.
The need is becoming more acute as the parish council are taking on jobs once the responsibility of Cornwall Council. As well as the Watergardens, there are footpaths, toilets, and other amenities to keep in good working order.
So, if anyone is up for giving a helping hand with the Watergardens or any other parish project do get in touch with Veryan Parish Council to offer your services
