Now firmly out of God’s Own Country, the boys faced what was going to be a tough couple of days!
Day 5: From Dulverton to Glastonbury. We had a very hilly start for first 20 miles or so, then gentle downhill into Taunton for well-earned lunch. 12 mile blast along Bridgewater and Somerset canal to Bridgewater having seen herons and kingfishers, and old pill boxes from WW2, part of a defensive line.
Then off along River Parrett to Glastonbury, riding through the Willow Walk, an avenue of trees. First time today we lost each other, Chris missed a turning and I thought he’d had a puncture so cycled back a couple of miles to find him. Anyway re-united after half an hour.
Stats: 68.1 miles 6 hrs 43. 10.2mph. 2824 elevation
Day 6: Glastonbury to Oldbury. We saw the Tor, Chris firmly told off by landlady for using her bedsheet for dancing round it, like the retired Druid he is! Fairly flat ride to Wells, found bike shop for running repairs then on to Priddy at top of Mendips, the worst climb yet. Going uphill, Chris is definitely not like the speed of sound, you hear him way before you see him! Saw Mike and Kate for refreshments at the top then down into Bristol and out through the city via Clifton Downs to Oldbury.
Stats: 53.4 miles 6hrs 08. 8.7mph. 3460 elevation
