Western Greyhound’s confirmed last Friday that they have issued a submission of a de-registration to the Traffic Commissioner. This will mean the buses 550 and 551 to Veryan, Portscatho and St Mawes will cease to exist from 4th May.
Cornwall Council are working hard to ensure the continuation of a service to Veryan, Portscatho and Gerrans, St Just and St Mawes and this change may also result in an opportunity to enhance the service to Portloe.
Cornwall Councillor for the Roseland, Julian German, told Roseland Online, “I am confident that Cornwall Council will ensure a replacement service but negotiations will need to take place.
“The next stage is to establish if another operator will be willing to take the service on a commercial basis. This will be soft market tested over the next few days.”
If nothing is forthcoming, a tender will be issued to retain a similar level of service as currently provided. The council hope that we will be able to maintain peak time journeys plus a reasonable spread of off peak journeys on this basis. Until negotiations are completed, though, they say it will not be possible to confirm a timetable at this stage.
Cllr German added, “Cornwall Council are committed to retaining a reasonable bus service to the communities currently served.”
