Murder, She Wrote: The Ghost and Mrs Fletcher by Jessica Fletcher, Donald Bain and Renee Paley-Bain – Published by Penguin Random House, Oct 2015
If you’ve watched the TV series ‘Murder, She Wrote’, you’ll know exactly what to expect. Set in Cabot Cove (of course), the story begins with the death in hospital of Cliff Cooper, long term resident of the Spencer Percy House in Cabot Cove.
Jessica is charged with the administration of his estate, arranging the sale of his home and dealing with his book collection. The proceeds are to be passed to his estranged grandson.
Naturally, there’s a murder, strangers arriving in town and some suspicious characters. Needless to say, the police chief needs help in deciding who’s committed the crime. Enter Jessica and her friend, local doctor Seth Hazlitt.
This is no masterpiece, it’s all a bit predictable, but it’s just the thing for a winter’s evening when all you need is comfort food, a fire, a cat and an undemanding read.
