Superfast Broadband for Roseland – September Update

superfast-broadband-cornwallFollowing a Skype conference call the other night with Cornwall’s SFB Team and BT, we can now provide you with the promised interim update on progress to date for the delivery of SFB to the Roseland. This interim report is quite brief but will be followed in the Autumn with a more comprehensive report when we hope to confirm those other areas that will be connected with approximate timings for this as well.

Interim update:

Superfast fibre broadband is now available to over 500 premises in Portscatho where most of you lucky ones have been enjoying speeds only dreamed of before. If you live in the immediate Portscatho area and are not already using SFB you should check whether you can connect using the line checker at www.superfastcornwall.org.

The ‘big build’ is continuing at a fast pace across the peninsula. A total of 9 cabinet areas are currently in the process of being upgraded with fibre broadband across the main three exchanges that serve the Roseland – Portscatho, St Mawes (see comment below) and Veryan. This will provide an SFB service to about an estimated additional 1400 premises over and above the 500 already live.

St Mawes/St Just – the SFB team would like to apologise to those people who were mistakenly informed that part of St Mawes had gone live. This was premature. We can however assure you all that the work is still underway and due to complete late this year.

Trewithian/Rosevine/Curgurrell/Treluggan and Philleigh – are areas where reasonable clustering exists and where demand is known to be high. Barring any unforeseen technical problems, it is planned to bring a fibre based solution to these areas. This will require additional work over and above the standard deployments. However initial promising surveys have been completed and detailed planning is now underway.

Veryan, Ruan, Treworthal, Treworlas and other areas – will be reported on in our next update as these are still being surveyed.

We will be meeting the SFB Team and BT face to face in late September to update on further progress and work on the next Autumn report.

Finally, if you have not yet done so, please do continue to fill out the ‘Keep me in the loop’ form on www.superfastcornwall.org and email us with your details so that the SFB Team, BT and ourselves have a record of your interest and the exchange area/location you live in.

Be in touch again soon.
